The family of Calvin Moagi, one of nine South African soldiers killed in Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is mourning his death.

Moagi was among the SANDF troops who lost their lives during clashes with M23 rebels.

Family spokesperson Monageng Moagi expressed the family’s grief over the tragic loss.

“It was very difficult for us as a family, and the news came as a surprise because we knew that he was in a war-torn country, but we always thought that he would come back,” Monageng said.

“He went to Mozambique, Cabo Delgado, in 2022/2023 and came back. We thought the same now, that he would come back, but it came as a very hard feeling. We took it very hard as a family. He was a very young man.”
