The family of a 28-year-old Limpopo woman who was killed in a gender-based violence incident, has lamented the delays in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
Lunghile Chauke was killed allegedly by her boyfriend Nyiko Nkuna in Malamulele in May.
The family says the matter has constantly been postponed at the local magistrate’s court.
The matter against Nkuna couldn’t be heard today due to the unavailability of his lawyer and the magistrate.
The mother of the deceased, Bernice Chauke, says instead of the magistrate deciding on bail, he told them to return on the 7th.
“On the 3rd of June, we attended the court case. Instead of the magistrate deciding on bail, he told us to return on the 7th. When we came back on the 7th, we received no response and were told to return again today.
However, when we arrived today, we were told that the accused’s lawyer was not present and that the magistrate responsible for the case was not at work. How could the magistrate instruct us to come today, knowing very well that he would not be available?”
