The family of Itumeleng Moreo, one of the 14 South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldiers who died in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on a peacekeeping mission has added its voice to those calling for the country’s soldiers to be recalled.

The fallen troops were killed during conflict between DRC army forces and M23 rebels.

North West Premier Lazarus Mokgosi visited Moreo’s family in Mahikeng to pay his respects.

This after the family received his remains at the Air Force base Swartkop last week.

The family spokesperson Jerry Moreo says they would not wish this pain on anyone.

“The pain that we have felt, we wouldn’t want any other family to go through that. It’s too humongous to handle. So, our call is the same as what most South Africans are feeling. We would really like all the soldiers to be recalled back to South Africa.”
