Fire destroys informal settlement
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance has dispatched disaster response teams to assist residents affected by the fire at Dakota Informal Settlement in Isipingo, south of Durban.
Scores of families have been left destitute after a fire broke-out during the early hours of this morning.

It is alleged the blaze was caused by some residents who had lit fires trying to keep warm. No fatalities and injuries have been reported.
Spokesperson for CoGTA in KZN is Senzelwe Mzila says, “The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, has deployed disaster response teams, under the Provincial Disaster Management Centre.
This morning at 4am in Dakota informal settlement, dwellings were destroyed by a fire. Disaster response teams were dispatched to combat the blaze and prevent further damage. An update will be provided once the situation is under control.”
