Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile releases crime statistics for the second quarter on December 17, 2025.
Quarterly crime statistic have revealed that extortion, gangs and taxi violence are the biggest drivers of crime in the Western Cape.
The quarterly crime statistics from July to September were released in Cape Town indicating an increase in murders of just over 9%.
Provincial Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile says about 80% of the crimes are committed in the Cape Town area.
Patekile says, “Our crime analysis reveal that the violent crimes are concentrated within the City of Cape Town District hence the Western Cape has nine police stations on the list of top 30 police stations of high crime stations.”
He add, “Of the nine high Western Cape contact stations, eight are in the City of Cape Town and even within the list of top 30 murder stations, the Western Cape has now 13 stations in the City of Cape Town at the heart of these crimes is the use of illegal firearms and ammunition.”
