Advocate Dali Mpofu
Former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) chairperson, Advocate Dali Mpofu, has revealed that he was involved in the formation of the uMkhonto we Sizwe Party (MK Party).
In an exclusive interview with SABC News Political Editor, Mzwandile Mbeje, Mpofu says the decision to form the now official opposition followed the 55th conference of the African National Congress (ANC) in 2022 in which party President, Cyril Ramaphosa, was elected for a second term.
Mpofu adds that there were engagements, chaired by himself, with the leaders of other political parties such as the UDM, PAC, ATM and the EFF, among others.
Mpofu says there were covert discussions between himself and former President Jacob Zuma.
“There was a time when former President Zuma and I were the only people who knew about this project of the formation of MK because we had discussed after the 2022 conference of the ANC very in-depth, as to what needs to be done, and we had various options, so this discussion took about 12 months.
Mbeje: “Advocate Mpofu, I just need to get you very clear, were you part and parcel of the formation of uMkhonto we Sizwe?”
Mpofu: “Absolutely.”
