A municipal water pipeline
The eThekwini Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal says it is confident that its repairs to a major water pipeline will be completed by the end of this week.
Mayor Cyril Xaba inspected the damaged pipeline following a burst last week. The pipe supplies about 30 megalitres of water a day to the city.
Areas currently experiencing water shortages include parts of the outer west, such as Inchanga and Shongweni, as well as areas of Pinetown and Umhlanga.
Xaba says the new pipe being installed will resolve the problem.
“So what you see today is a pipe replacement problem. It’s 120 millimetres of pipe that will be placed as we speak to deal with the problem. And the teams are on the ground and they’ve given me the completion date. I’m satisfied that looking at the amount of work that is being undertaken, you will meet the completion date. So that you can start seeing water flowing into the areas that are currently experiencing a short supply,” Xaba says.
