Eswatini groups to march to US Embassy in Pretoria over prison deal

Organisations from Eswatini, including the Swaziland Youth Congress (SWAYOCO) and the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO) will march to the US Embassy in Pretoria on Friday.

They are protesting reports of a $500 million deal between King Mswati III and the United States to house convicted US criminals in eSwatini.

The groups say their country is being treated like a dumping site and the deal violates the country’s sovereignty.

Swaziland Youth Congress regional secretary Nhlanhla Magongo says it was a secret deal between the King and the US Government.

“We have witnessed the landing of the europlane concerning these 6 USA criminals that were deported from the USA and also that even the stooge parliament in Swaziland. There was confrontation, and those members of parliament made it clear that they are not part of the deal and this deal was between the US and King Mswati III.  It was a secret deal. Hence, we reject this act”.
