Eskom repairing tripped transformer that disrupted 15 mines

Eskom technicians are attending to a tripped transformer that has disrupted the power supply to 15 mines in Carletonville, Fochville and Potchefstroom.

The power supply cut-off has also affected residential areas.

The Power utility says its staff is working to restore the power.

Eskom Gauteng Spokesperson Amanda Qithi says, “Our technical teams managed to restore essential load to the mines, enabling limited operations. However, efforts are still underway to complete repairs and fully restore electricity supply to all affected customers.”

She says, “At this stage, we are unable to provide a definitive timeline for the conclusion of the repairs. The safety of our employees and contractors remains our number one priority as they are being threatened by the illegal miners operating in the area contributing to the delay in supply restoration.”
