Enyobeni tavern owner, Siyakhangela Ndevu, is expected to take the stand on Wednesday in the Enyobeni Inquest sitting at the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court in East London.
The Inquest is investigating who should be held liable for the death of the 21 teenagers at Enyobeni tavern in Scenery Park in 2022.
On Tuesday, Ndevu, who is representing himself, was leading the evidence of investigating officer Colonel Zingisa Majova, who was part of the first team of investigators to examine the scene.
During Majova’s testimony, Ndevu questioned her about the role that parents played in the matter, arguing that Majova and her team should have held the parents responsible for gross negligence for allowing their children out of the house in the middle of the night.
“Everyday, knowing children are drinking on the streets, I wake up even at 12 O’clock and check them in their rooms. One other thing that happened, when the police went to report the incident to the families, other parents were found drunk, not even knowing what was going on,” adds Ndevu.
June 26 marked the third anniversary of Enyobeni tragedy.
