Emfuleni mayor seeks ANC intervention after being asked to resign

Emfuleni Local Municipality Executive Mayor in Gauteng, Sipho Radebe, has written to African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General, Fikile Mbalula, seeking intervention after the party’s regional office bearers of the Sedibeng Region asked him to resign.

In a letter dated 10 February 2026, Radebe says he was asked to step down over ongoing financial challenges in the municipality.

He argues the request is neither politically fair nor factually accurate.

Radebe argues Emfuleni was already in serious decline when he assumed office in 2021.
