Emfuleni Local Municipality Mayor Sipho Radebe.
Mayor of Emfuleni local municipality in Gauteng and African National Congress (ANC) member Sipho Radebe says he remains the mayor and will not resign.
This follows allegations that the ANC’s Sedibeng regional executive committee instructed Radebe to resign.
Radebe has told SABC News that he is engaging his party. “You are speaking to the executive mayor sipho radebe. The mayor has not risigned. So there are still engagements to be held between the organization that has deployed me. But right now i wouldn’t want to speak about that until we have something to talk about.”
Emfuleni Mayor, Sipho Radebe has written to the ANC SG,Fikile Mbalula asking for his intervention. The ANC regional leadership in Sedibeng has requested that Radebe resign claiming that he has failed to bring about financial stability in the Emfuleni Municipality. #sabcnews pic.twitter.com/MV1N2EFoyW

In a letter dated 10 February 2026, Radebe says he was asked to step down over ongoing financial challenges in the municipality. He argues the request is neither politically fair nor factually accurate.
Radebe argues Emfuleni was already in serious decline when he assumed office in 2021.
