Ekurhuleni officer probed over cash-and-carry warehousing ownership

The City of Ekurhuleni has launched an internal investigation against a metro police department officer who allegedly owns a cash-and-carry warehousing business operated by foreign nationals in Etwatwa.

Executive Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza conducted a mayoral outreach programme in the area where the discovery was made.

It was found that the store operated by foreign nationals was using public streets and private buildings as makeshift warehouses, posing a safety risk to residents.

Xhakaza says disciplinary processes will be instituted against the officer.

“So, we’ve now issued them with a warning that we are going to act within a week. We will have to come and ensure that we’ve demolished this structure and we’re going get our guys to confiscate some of the stock. I mean, you can see a lot of stock on the road. They said this is coke, they bought it from Coca-Cola, but we doubt, we’ve asked for paper. And I’m sure our people, they can’t be exposed to … you know, what do you call it, fake Coca-Cola products,” adds Xhakaza.
