Nkosindiphile Xhakaza , Ekurhuleni Mayor
Ekurhuleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza has reshuffled the city’s Mayoral Committee.
The reason for the reshuffle is not immediately clear although it comes amid tension between coalition partners, the African National Congress (ANC) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
Xhakaza says there were extensive consultations with the multi-party organisations represented in council.
The ANC now has five MMC positions, the EFF two, whilst the Patriotic Alliance, ActionSA and National Freedom Party (NFP) all have one.
Some changes include ActionSA’s mayoral candidate in the metro, Xolani Khumalo being appointed as the MMC of community Services and By Law Enforcement, the NFP’s Councillor, Siphumule Ntombela comes in as the MMC of Corporate Shared Services; whilst EFF Councillor Thembi Msane has been moved to the Infrastructure and Economic Development Agency.
The changes come after EFF leader Julius Malema said his party would end cooperation agreements with the ANC in Gauteng.
He accused Xhakaza who is also the ANC Chairperson in Ekurhuleni of wanting to push the EFF out of their governance responsibilities in his metro.
The members will be sworn in at 9:00AM on Wednesday.
