The City of Ekurhuleni has placed its Head of Human Resources, Linda Gxasheka on precautionary suspension. The municipality says the move is aimed at protecting internal processes as investigations continue.
It emerged at the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria that Gxasheka was allegedly reluctant to initiate suspension proceedings against Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi.
This was over allegations that he fitted state blue lights to private vehicles belonging to controversial businessman, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
The city says Gxasheka was suspended with immediate effect following a council resolution.
She was allowed to make written representations, which were considered.
The municipality has stressed that the suspension is not a finding of guilt but a temporary measure to protect internal processes.
The city says it remains committed to fully supporting the work of the Madlanga Commission, recognising its importance in strengthening accountability and safeguarding the integrity of municipal governance.
