Ekurhuleni City enforces 14-day notice for ritual animal slaughter

The City of Ekurhuleni says residents need to submit a written notice at least 14 days before slaughtering animals for religious or cultural purposes.

The city says traditional and religious slaughtering is an important part of many celebrations. It, however, says this must be done responsibly and in accordance with the Public Health By-laws.

The Festive Season is fast approaching – a period characterised by the slaughtering of animals for various purposes.

The City of Ekurhuleni says that when slaughtering animals, you need to obtain written permission at least 14 days prior.

The slaughtering must be conducted privately and out of public view and the remains, such as blood and waste be disposed of hygienically to avoid any health hazard.

The animals should not be kept for more than 12 hours before slaughter and must not cause noise disturbances.

The municipality warns that anyone found violating by-laws could face fines or imprisonment. -Report by Culvin Mabasa
