The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema engaging with members of the media in Johannesburg on December 11, 2025.
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says that the party will continue engaging the South African Communist Party (SACP) informally ahead of the 2026 local government elections.
This comes as the SACP has confirmed that it will contest next year’s elections independently from the ANC, its alliance partner.
The Communist Party has been disgruntled over the Government of National Unity (GNU) and issues pertaining to the reconfiguration of the alliance.
Briefing the media at party headquarters in Johannesburg, Malema says while the SACP has no capacity to mobilise, the EFF will engage them as both parties are ideologically aligned.
He says, “I think they must accept that they are just theoreticians and leave it at that, you know there is a guy called Joel Netshitenzhe, you have never heard him saying he’s going to launch a branch of the ANC no matter how good he is ideologically politically. You have never heard that Joel Netshitenzhe is doing door-to-door for mobilization, no it’s just a theoretician which some of your friends who are forming parties should be accepting that they’re just theoreticians.”
THAMI NTULI
Meanwhile, Malema says that the EFF will support the motion of no confidence against KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli.
The motion of no confidence against Ntuli was brought by the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) in the province and will be heard on Monday.
Malema says that the support for the motion of no confidence is not support for the MKP.
He says, “It’s a support against the neoliberal forces that came together to form a government against the wishes of the people of KwaZulu-Natal. Whether we like it or not the MKP got majority vote in KZN and whether there’s capacity in the MKP or not is none of our business.”
