Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Gauteng Chairperson, Nkululeko Dunga, says they will only re-join a co-operation agreement with the African National Congress (ANC) if Ekurhuleni Mayor, Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, resigns.
He has reflected on the EFF’s decision to end co-operation agreements with the ANC in all Gauteng municipalities.
The EFF has accused Xhakaza of trying to push it out of its governance responsibilities in the metro.
It has also rejected member of mayoral committee positions in Ekurhuleni after Xhakaza’s cabinet reshuffle and has instead taken up seats on the opposition bench.
Speaking to SABC News, Dunga says, “The main point is that the policies and the ideological perceptive of the EFF finds resonance in governance and really just engage in that process that speaks to the ideological perspective of the organisation, but we’re at a point where we do not believe that the ANC has any integrity to actually sit down with the EFF and its leadership. Xhakaza must just resign in the interest of social justice to the people of Ekurhuleni, in the interest of stability, because you collapse what would have been ordinarily a thoroughly functioning municipality that has a majority, you know, even in council, particularly in the City of Ekurhuleni, that has been functioning extremely well, and you would want to express your ego by trying and ultimately creating instability into the state.”
