EFF marks Land Day, reaffirms call for land expropriation

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says it will continue to fight for the expropriation of land without compensation. This is as party leader Julius Malema will address the EFF land reclamation day at noon in Sophiatown, Johannesburg.

Malema’s address will reflect on the arrival of Jan van Riebeeck in South Africa on 6 April 1652, which the EFF has described as the beginning of land dispossession and forced removals of indigenous African people.

EFF spokesperson Thembi Msane elaborates, “The Land Reclamation Day means a lot, especially because we are here today in Sophia Town, because you know that the people of Sophia Town were dispossessed by the Group Areas Act, which was signed into law around 1950. So for us as the EFF, we want to assure the people of South Africa that we want expropriation of land without compensation, and we are not ashamed of that. We have been calling for that and will continue to call for that, not this disguise of something that South Africa wants to call expropriation of land without compensation.”
