The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in KwaZulu-Natal is calling on the state to conduct a thorough investigation on people implicated in a confession statement by one of the men charged with the murder of former African National Congress (ANC) Youth League Secretary General Sindiso Magaqa.
Sibusiso Ncengwa, who has pleaded guilty to killing Magaqa, made his confession before the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Monday.
Magaqa was shot in July 2017 in uMzimkhulu, KwaZulu-Natal, and succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
According to Ncengwa, the hit was ordered by the then uMzimkhulu Municipality officials who allegedly paid him and his co-accused a huge amount of cash.
Ncengwa further states that they were also promised lucrative tenders as compensation for carrying out the hit.
His co-accused, Sbonelo Myeza and Mbulelo Mpofana, maintain they are innocent.
The fourth accused Mlungisi Ncalane, who was subsequently declared unfit to stand trial, is currently in a psychiatric facility.
EFF’s Provincial Spokesperson Chris Msibi says justice needs to be served.
“We’ve always been saying that this was an inside job within the ANC because they wanted to silence Magaqa for his voice of reason. We are not going to sit in silence. We are going to follow up on this matter until all the perpetrators are brought to book,” adds Msibi.
