EFF Deputy Provincial Chairperson Thomas Macingwane leads picket outside the Kroonstad doctor’s practice on September 1, 2025,
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members in Free State have gathered outside the Kroonstad Magistrate’s Court in the Free State, where an 80-year-old man is due to appear.
The man admitted on camera to murdering someone and burying the body on his farm.
He told the media in a recording that SABC News is in possession of that he had killed before and would kill again, if he were attacked on his farm.
The suspect is facing charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.
The man is the grandfather of another person accused of killing and burying a body in a shallow grave on the farm.
EFF Deputy Provincial Chairperson Thomas Macingwane says they want the court to deny him bail.
Macingwane says, “As the EFF, we’re here today at Kroonstad Magistrate’s Court, we’re here to demonstrate to ensure that the perpetrator does not get bail because today is his bail application. The man is a danger to society and he must remain in custody until the trial.”
Provincial Police Spokesperson Motantsi Makhele says, “Late yesterday (Tuesday) evening, the farmer was taken into custody, an 80-year-old man. There might be other arrests because we believe that the matter doesn’t involve only one person.”
Makhele adds: “So, as we have been picking it up from our investigation that there are other forensic part of investigations which still needs to be completed, we’ll allow that to happen, but we believe that this case will stand today in court, and that there might be other additional suspects, or one suspect to be added to it.”
