EC transport driver suspended for failing to help bullied learner

A scholar transport operator has been suspended by the Department of Transport in the Eastern Cape, after a bullying incident occurred in the bus he used to ferry learners. The incident relates to a video where an 18-year-old learner from David Mama Senior Secondary School in Mdantsane is seen being assaulted by a fellow pupil.

Education MEC, Fundile Gade is expected to visit the school on Monday. Provincial Transport spokesperson, Unathi Binqose says Eastern Cape Transport MEC Xolile Nqatha has described the lack of intervention by the driver as equally appalling as the acts of violence and humiliation against the young lady.

“The MEC has extended his word of support and has pledged to work with the sister department, Education and other authorities to bring about justice to this young lady and any other child that is subjected to bullying.”

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has issued a statement demanding that the learner involved in the bullying incident be immediately expelled without investigation.
