Scholar transport operators in the Eastern Cape have threatened to take the provincial government to court about their outstanding payments. They claim not have been paid since, January.
According to the operators they have lost confidence in the Transport MEC, Xolile Nqatha and his Department to resolve the current impasse.
The taxi operators are said to fed up with the provincial goverment’s refusal to pay them for service’s rendered. They accuse the Provincial Transport Department of dragging feet in addressing their concerns.
Transport operator Khaya Mpeqeka say they are tired of talking.
“We are sick and tired now because it’s a long time now talking about one thing, and we didn’t achieve anything. Now we are tired that is why we are taking the decision to take those guys to the lawyers.”
According to the provincial Transport Spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, they are attending to the issues of the operators.
“We want to assure operators that they will be paid. It’s just that we encountered some problems in our systems for the month of April which created a bit a bit of a backlog. However, those systems have since been repaired and they are up and running and we are now in the process of catching up with those outstanding invoices, and we are urging those operators whose invoices have been flagged to have some discrepancies to attend to those to resubmit to us so we can process.”
The operators are expected to meet their attorneys during the course of next week to map a way forward.
