EC govt confirms 11 people are still missing amid floods

The Eastern Cape government has confirmed that eleven people are missing after heavy rains caused flooding in the province on Tuesday.

The minibus carrying the missing people was swept into a river in Decoligny. Most of them are believed to be learners.

The death toll stands at nine.

Provincial government spokesperson, Khuselwa Rantjie, says the search for the missing people will resume this morning.

“In the Alfred Nzo area, just outside Kokstad were trapped in the snow and farmers in that area assisted to keep them in a safe environment, and in the Barkley East area, the people who were trapped in the snow in that area were rescued. That was the only pass in the province closed last night and we will assess this morning.”
