The Bhisho Massacre Memorial Site in Bhisho commemorates the victims of the Bhisho Massacre.
Victims of the Bhisho massacre of 1992 will be remembered by their families and the Eastern Cape government today.
On this day 33 years ago, the Ciskei Defense Force opened fire on unarmed protesters who were marching to demand an end to the military rule of Brigadier ‘Oupa’ Gqozo and to call for the incorporation of the then Ciskei back into South Africa.
Twenty-eight protesters and one soldier were shot dead and more than 200 people were wounded and injured.
The commemoration will start with a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial site at the Bhisho stadium, followed by a social dialogue.
