The Eastern Cape Social Development Department has condemned a video in which a woman is captured giving her young child alcohol. The video has since gone viral on social media platforms.
In it, multiple other children are also drinking alcohol under the command of their parents.
MEC Bukiwe Fanta says they intend to open a case against the parents.
“Right now, our social workers are there in Engcobo. We are going to do an assessment and make sure that this mother is fit to stay with those kids. If at push, we will take those kids to a place of safety and police are also on the ground to make sure that the woman is being jailed,” says Fanta.
