Eastern Cape says it’s making strides in fighting corruption

The Eastern Cape Provincial government says it has made significant strides in its fight against corruption.

The province hosted an event in Kwazakhele in Gqeberha today, commemorating International Anti-Corruption Day, which is celebrated worldwide.

The event saw many government and private sector entities coming together to mobilise communities to take a stand against corruption.

Arts and Culture MEC Sibulele Ngongo says the government has reduced conflict of interest cases by 90%.

“One of the most important things is a committee responsible for financial disclosures for the SMS level officials of government departments, as well as the political leadership. This has yielded good results.”

Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor Babalwa Lobishe says the municipality is committed to the fight against corruption.

“We are very much prepared to open our arms for anyone that is in the way of the law. We are receiving no less than 40 tips in a quarter and with those we allow internal audit to deal with them with no manipulation from the political leadership.”
