Newborn baby feet.
A total of 187 newborns were recorded in the Eastern Cape both in public and private hospitals on Christmas Day.
Health MEC, Ntandokazi Capa, says 95 of the newborns were males, while 92 were females.
The leading district was Nelson Mandela Bay with 53 births followed by OR Tambo, Alfred Nzo and Chris Hani District with 36 and 21 births, respectively.

Capa says 40 births out of the 187 recorded were young mothers between the ages of 15 and 19, which is of concern.
