Floods in Eastern Cape.
The death toll in the wake of the devastating winter storm that struck the Eastern Cape has risen to 86.
It was pegged at 78 yesterday.
Minister Senzo Mchunu revealed the latest figure while he was addressing police officers and emergency personnel in Mthatha.
“There are so many people who are deceased as it were and there is reference to the overall figure in the province rising up to 86.”

Meanwhile, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa says the Eastern Cape floods death toll is expected to rise, as the search for more bodies is still underway.
The floodwaters have subsided and some people are starting to rebuild following devastating floods.
Hlabisa says a national day of mourning has been declared for the 19th of June. A number of destitute people are being housed in the Mthatha city hall.
Plus minus 50 families have come together to stay in this community hall. All their houses were demolished by the storm but they are saying the situation is difficult they are congested.
There are children here and they are really struggling to cope.
She’s saying that all of them they’ve left their homes simply because their homes were damaged, flooded, muddy and those who lost their loved ones they cry the whole night. They have nightmares of what actually happened.
He’s saying they been here for three days now, they have absolutely nothing, no clothing, nothing and its now half past eight they have not had anything to eat and they don’t know maybe what time the food will be brought so that they can take their medication.
