Yard of a home after floods
Eastern Cape CoGTA MEC Zolile Williams has assured the Mthatha flood victims that government will relocate the homeless families to newly identified land and will also renovate the partially demolished homes.
The bed and breakfast accommodation for the homeless has also been extended by 15 more days.
Williams visited Mthatha to assess and evaluate the progress on the intervention efforts, amid disastrous flash floods that have since claimed 102 lives in the province.
“We will relocate them. We have identified vacant land. For those with partially damaged houses, we will renovate and resettle them back to their areas. We will make an assessment.”
