E Cape Education warns schools not to withhold academic reports

The Department of Education in Eastern Cape has warned schools that anyone who deliberately withholds academic reports will be dealt with decisively.

The department says withholding of these report cards is illegal and contravenes the South African Schools Act.

Department Spokesperson, Malibongwe Mtima, says it’s within learners’ rights to know how they performed throughout the year.

“Principals of all schools are accordingly reminded of this important section of the SASA Act and are cautioned that any withholding of reports is not allowed. Circuit managers are implored to bring the content of this memo to all schools and ensure that they monitor its implementation without fail. All report cards shall be issued upon the quality assurance and approval of the schedule by circuit managers.”
