‘Dudula health care protests a violation of Constitution’

Human rights group, African Diaspora Network has condemned campaigns targeting undocumented foreign nationals seeking healthcare services at public facilities.

Operation Dudula, amongst other civic organisations have mobilised themselves to prevent foreign nationals from accessing health facilities around the country, saying they are straining the country’s resources.

Chairperson of the African Diaspora Network, Dr. Vusumuzi Sibanda says this is against the country’s constitution.

“Anybody that prevents a person from accessing healthcare which will bring them life is actually denying the other person the right to life and is actually dehumanising them. So those are violations that are against the Constitution and their constitutional rights. Hence we are saying that Operation Dudula, whatever it is that they are doing is against the Constitution and the spirit of humanity or Ubuntu as defined in the South African Constitution and other international documents. So we condemn it and call upon the authorities to take action against it.”
