Drug bust in Wepener lands two suspects behind bars in F. State


A major drug bust has landed two suspects behind bars at Wepener in the Free State.

Police Spokesperson, Mahlomola Kareli, says the suspects, aged 41 and 52, were arrested when police raided a farm in the area and seized 78 boxes of dagga worth an estimated R78 000 along with live ammunition.

Kareli says the suspects will face charges of dealing in dagga and unlawful possession of ammunition.

He says they are expected to appear in the Wepener Magistrate’s Court soon.

“During the operation, the team received a crucial tip-off regarding a farm in the Wepener district allegedly being used to transport and store illicit substances. Upon arrival at the identified premises, officers encountered two male suspects, a thorough search of the residence led to the discovery of 78 boxes of dagga with an estimated street value of 780,000 and 9 mm live rounds found in a bedroom. They face charges of dealing in dagga and the unlawful possession of ammunition.”
