Dricus to host mixed martial arts event with City of Cape Town

Former UFC middleweight champion, Dricus du Plessis, with the help of the City of Cape Town, will host a Mixed Martial Arts event early next year.

Du Plessis says it’s a dream come true as he doesn’t see himself doing anything else other than being involved in the sport.

He hasn’t been in action since losing his UFC middleweight title to Khamzat Chimaev in August via a unanimous decision.

He says in future, there might be more events that will be hosted in other cities as he is keen to give back to the sport.

‘”I want to give back to the sport that gave me everything. As cliche as that sounds, it is 100% facts. We’ve been trying to do this for many years because I am so passionate about this. And this is not me doing this; this is me alongside the EFC who’s invested in the sport since I was 14, 15 years old,” he says.

The Grand West Grand Arena will host the inaugural tournament on 26 February 2026.
