Tembisa Hospital on Gauteng’s East Rand.
The DA says it expects the Gauteng Department of Health to prosecute those involved in corruption at the Tembisa Hospital.
This as the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) releases its interim report into allegations of corruption, maladministration, and irregularities at the hospital.
In 2023, President Cyril Ramaphosa authorised the SIU to investigate allegations of corruption at the hospital following the murder of whistleblower and chief accounting officer at the province’s health department, Babita Deokaran, in 2021.
DA Gauteng Shadow Health MEC, Dr Jack Bloom, says the party will pursue disciplinary action and prosecution against those involved.
“We want to see criminal charges. Nobody has been criminally charged for anything to do with the Tembisa Hospital corruption, which is massive; it’s over R2 billion siphoned off over two years. We need to see people in court and we also need to find out who was the master mind behind the assassination of Babita Deokaran because it definitely seems to be linked to the corruption at Tembisa Hospital.”
