Ten-time champion, Novak Djokovic of Serbia, showed he’s still at the top of his game after beating third seed, Carlos Alcaraz of Spain, in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open tennis tournament in Melbourne.

The 37-year-old 24-time Grand Slam champion took care of the Spanish rising star in four sets, the score 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 and 6-4 to reach his 50th Grand Slam semi-final.

The 21-year-old Spaniard took the opening set, playing some brilliant tennis at times. Djokovic, however, has displayed a never-say-die attitude throughout his career, which is just one of the cornerstones of his success. This allowed him to turn the tables in the 2nd set.

Both players battled to find their best form in the 3rd set. The Serbian however, seemed to bounce back from his mistakes much better than his younger opponent and he prevailed.

With momentum on his side, Djokovic saw off the Spaniard’s best efforts in the 4th set to take the match. He will face world number two Alexander Zverev in the semi-final. The German needed four sets to beat American 12th seed Tommy Paul 7-6, 6-7, 6-2, 6-1.

And in the women’s quarter-final round, defending champion Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus reached the semi-finals, beating Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in 3 sets.

She will cross swords with Spain’s Paula Badosa who has advanced to a Grand Slam semi-final for the first time in her career. The former world number 2 handed American Coco Gauff her first loss of 2025 when she defeated the third seed 7-5, 6-4 in their quarter-final match.
