Displaced residents from the Booysens informal settlement in Johannesburg, are calling on the government for urgent assistance. This as scores of residents were left homeless this afternoon after a fire ripped through the informal settlement.
The exact cause of the fire is still unknown at this stage.
No fatalities or injuries have been reported at this stage.
Lerato Nilika says she will now be forced to sleep on the street with her three-month-old child, as her shack was completely burnt down.
“I don’t know where we are going to sleep tonight because I have a three month kid and I just want to ask the government for RDP shelter because if ever we are continuing to build another shack it is going to happen again,” says Nikila.
