Disgruntled current and former workers march to Ramathuba’s office

Disgruntled current and former workers of the government-owned bus company, Great North Transport, have marched to Satawu and the office of the Limpopo Premier in Polokwane, Limpopo.

The workers are demanding over R300 million of their pension payouts.

They say that they reached an agreement with the Office of the Premier in October last year to appoint actuaries to determine how much the GNT owes to each worker, but no progress has been made.

The forensic report revealed that the company was deducting money from workers, but not paying it to the pension fund administrator, due to alleged mismanagement of funds.

Chairperson of a non-governmental organisation, Make It Happen Foundation, Herry Masindi, says, “We are here at the office of the premier, Phophi Ramathuba, as per the agreement we entered into with her on the 08th of October 2024. We entered into an agreement again with her office (in) January 2025 where they agreed to appoint actuaries to determine how much they have to pay each and every individual employee after they admitted the wrong thing,” says Masindi.
