Disciplinary action against Limpopo doctor accused of attempted rape

Limpopo Health MEC Dieketseng Mashego says they have established grounds to institute disciplinary action against a male doctor that allegedly attempted to rape a pregnant female patient at George Masebe Hospital outside Mokopane.

The incident reportedly happened at the ultrasound scan ward last month.

The 22-year-old female patient reported the alleged incident to hospital authorities and police.

Mashego says an internal investigation revealed there are grounds for disciplinary action.

“Us as the Department of Health, we are saying that allegation on its own is bad for our image as the Department of Health and if there is a complaint from one of our patients, we take it to task to ensure we must protect them, so that is why we started with investigations.

We are done with the investigation so to say, we have started with disciplinary processes.

It tells you that we feel like based on the investigation outcome, we have grounds to charge the doctor.”
