Disaster management teams have been placed on high alert in parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
This follows warnings of inclement weather conditions issued by the South African Weather Service.
Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila has urged people to exercise caution, especially those residing in low-lying areas.
“According to the South African Weather Service, severe thunderstorms are expected to affect the western parts of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) today, with a likelihood of strong winds, lightning, and heavy downpours that may lead to localised flooding. Cogta MEC, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, has assured residents that the Provincial Disaster Management Centre is working closely with all relevant stakeholders, including municipalities, Sanral, and the provincial department, to ensure that adequate measures are in place to respond swiftly to any incidents that may arise, as a result of the inclement weather conditions,” says Mzila.
