National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza has confirmed that she is considering a course of action following KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s allegations.
In a media briefing last weekend, Mkhwanazi made damning allegations against senior police officials.
He alleged that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu interfered in crime fighting operations and had links to a criminal syndicate.

Parliament spokesperson, Moloto Mothapo says Didiza’s office has received communication from political parties following Mkhwanazi’s allegations.
“The Speaker has since received two letters from political parties requesting a snap debate on the issues raised by General Mkhwanazi, in accordance with the Rules of the National Assembly. In addition, the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police has written to the Speaker seeking guidance on how the Committee should address these matters, as they fall within its oversight responsibilities. The Speaker is currently considering all of these matters.”
Meanwhile, the African National Congress says that President Cyril Ramaphosa will swiftly attend to the matters raised by Mkhwanazi.
