Diamonds and Dorings Festival shines bright for Kimberley

The organizers of the annual Diamonds and Dorings music festival are excited that the event is slowly living up to its expectations.

Hundreds of music lovers descended on the Oval Cricket Ground in Kimberley for this reimagined festival experience.

Music lovers at the annual Diamonds and Dorings Music Festival held in the Cassandra Suburb in Kimberley braved the rainy weather to enjoy the festival.

The festival comes amid complaints of crime, littering, and high noise levels from residents of Cassandra Suburb, situated near the cricket oval.

Revelers come from far and wide; some music lovers say they drove all the way from Bloemfontein and Johannesburg to be here.

“It’s nice to set up the security; the marshals are all over, so it’s well organized as far as I can see. The rain wants us to leave, but we are going nowhere.”

“It’s nice to be here after two years. It’s good. The fact that it’s in Diamond Oval is nice; it’s not in Langley, and it’s not far. I am enjoying the festival rain or no rain I am enjoying the festival, rain or no rain. I don’t care; it’s nice to be here.”

The venue shift comes after one of the event’s traditional venues at the Riverton Resort was flooded during the recent heavy rains.

Event organiser, Chantelle Engelbrecht says the event will again put Kimberley and Northern Cape on the map.

“This is amazing; we just love how much support we are getting. It’s incredibly gratifying to see people actually support something like this, and it’s actually a signature event for the Northern Cape. It’s all about economic development and growing tourism. It’s all about the Northern Cape as a province of exciting events.”

Meanwhile, Kgotso “KG SMALLS” Potsane, one of the performing artists, says the event maps a way forward for local artists.

“Truly speaking, I think this is a good initiative, and we wish to get more support from the government and neighbouring towns to support the event. It is a good initiative because it empowers more upcoming business people and local talent.”

The organizers hope next year’s festival will again live up to the hype.
