Gauteng Transport MEC, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela is continuing her engagement with scholar transport operators, despite most of them boycotting the session in Johannesburg.
The meeting was postponed last weekend, as the Joburg City Hall was too small to accommodate all operators.
It has been moved to the University of Johannesburg’s Soweto Campus on Saturday, to accommodate all those who wanted to attend.
On Friday, some operators said they will not attend today’s session, after a protest to have their impounded vehicles released failed.
Gauteng scholar transport operators protest
“So no one will stop me from meeting whoever, last week we were in Hamanskraal, yesterday it was in Soshanguve because all operators are worried that when we try to come we get stopped that we can’t speak to the MEC, so it cannot happen. I can’t sit in boardrooms and wait for people and wait to meet people calling themselves leaders and when I create a platform to meet with everyone and try to hear what are the issues, then I’m stopped. So we’re continuing, we’re not going to stop and please raise the issues, the teams are ready to make presentations on what is expected from you. So our responsibility is to make sure you get licences.”
