Defence to continue with Zungu’s evidence in Senzo Meyiwa trial

The High Court in Pretoria is expected to hear the continuation of testimony from Absolom Zungu when the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial resumes on Friday.

Zungu, the father of key state witness Constable Sizwe Zungu, is the second witness to be called by the defence.

He has denied making a statement to the police about Meyiwa’s murder, implicating the accused number one, Muzi Sibiya and the accused number two, Bongani Ntanzi. However, proceedings were halted yesterday after accused number five, Fisokuhle Ntuli, alleged he was assaulted at Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria.

Presiding Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng said the postponement has a ripple effect on court proceedings.

“This court had made an order that. If such a witness comes, the legal aid board must pay for the boarding and lodging and transportation of that witness. Now, when we postpone the meeting on these frivolous reasons, it impends also on the business of this court, and it also impacts the availability of Mr. Zungu Senior.”
