The lawyer for the man accused of the murder of Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock says the state does not have evidence against his client.
The 44-year-old Victor Majola appeared briefly in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed to next Tuesday.
Majola is accused of the premeditated murder of the popular media personality who was shot and killed outside a Johannesburg building last month.
At the time of his assassination, Stock’s security company had been contracted to enforce security at the building.
Majola’s defence attorney, Dumisani Mabunda, says he is ready for the bail hearing scheduled for next Tuesday.
“The state actually struggled to place this matter on the court roll due to a lack of evidence. They took almost five hours to gather evidence and to actually place this matter on record. Remember when one says on a Saturday that he will arrest the suspect on a Monday, it means therefore they are already under pressure to arrest. And at all costs, they arrested somebody.”
“As of today, we don’t know anything about CCTV footage; the only linkage that they have is the statement from this co-accused whose charges were withdrawn. There is nothing else linking the accused to this particular crime,” adds Mabunda.
