Death toll in Limpopo accident increases to six

Two more people have died in hospital after being seriously injured in a crash in Limpopo.

This brings to six the number of people killed in the crash, which happened when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned on the R524 Punda Maria road outside Thohoyandou.

The Limpopo Transport MEC’s spokesperson, Tshifhiwa Dali says, “Four passengers perished on the scene, with the driver and another person who were both seriously injured being transported to a nearby hospital. The two who were seriously injured later on succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total number to six. The remaining passenger is still in hospital.”

He adds that preliminary reports indicate that the car lost control and veered off the road, scattering passengers all over.

“The final report from the investigators will determine the exact cause of the accident.”

Meanwhile, officials from the Zimbabwe and Malawi high commissions and the Limpopo provincial government are on Monday expected to meet with the families of the 43 people killed in a bus crash outside Louis Trichardt more than a week ago.

The bus was carrying over 90 people. It crashed on the N1 on its way from Qheberha to Malawi through Zimbabwe.
