Aerial support was activated due to the inaccessibility of the area for firefighting vehicles.
Authorities in Gansbaai say the fire in De Kelders in the Western Cape has been confined to a single block. The blaze started yesterday.
Overstrand Municipal Manager, Dean O’Neill says the fire will continue to burn intensely within the block.
He says the perimeter remains very hot. There will be operations to prevent further spread.
O’Neill says one firefighting tanker has been slightly damaged, two houses damaged and approximately 213 hectares burned.
He says Eskom is aware of the infrastructure damage, and residents in the greater Gansbaai area should prepare for a potential electricity outage.
The R-43 is open. Both traffic and law enforcement officers will maintain visibility.
