Davidovich Fokina beats Shelton, faces De Minaur in Washington final

Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina scalped another top gun as he downed third seed Ben Shelton at the ATP 500 Washington Open yesterday to advance to the final.

Davidovich Fokina, who defeated Taylor Fritz in the quarter-finals, shut the door on the American in straight games, 6-2 7-5.

Earlier, seventh seed Australian Alex de Minaur blew hot and cold in his semi-final meeting with Corentin Moutet of France but was able to grind out a 6-4 6-3 win over the lucky loser.

De Minaur will also return to the top 10 after reaching the final.
