DA wins by-elections in Cederberg, Langeberg: IEC

The Electoral Commission (IEC) says the Democratic Alliance (DA) has won both by-elections that took place in the Cederberg and Langeberg areas in the Western Cape on Tuesday.

In Langeberg Ward Four, the DA managed to wrestle the seat from the African National Congress (ANC) after councillor Daniel Baadjies resigned from the ANC to contest the by-election as a DA member.

The vacancy in Cederberg Ward Four followed the DA’s termination of the ward councillor’s party membership.

The IEC’s Provincial Electoral Officer, Michael Hendrickse says, “In Ward Four in Cederberg, which covers the areas of Elandsbay and Graaff Water, there were six parties which contested the by-election. The by-election was won by the Democratic Alliance.”

“In the Langeberg municipality, Ward Four, which covers the area of Bonnievale, was contested by four political parties, and the ward was then won by the Democratic Alliance. I want to say thank you to the voters who came out to participate, as well as to our voting staff at our voting stations for assisting our voters. “
