EFF leader Julius Malema.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has welcomed the ruling of the Western Cape Equality Court, which found EFF leader Julius Malema guilty of hate speech.
This verdict relates to statements Malema made during a speech at the EFF’s third provincial People’s Assembly in the Western Cape in 2022.
The DA says the ruling serves as a warning to members of parliament, that they cannot publicly express hateful and divisive speech.
DA National Spokesperson, Willie Aucamp, says they will explore additional actions to ensure serious consequences for Malema.
“What Malema said when he made those utterances is unacceptable and that was now been confirmed by the Western Cape Equility Court. In this country, we must work towards harmony between all the people in this country. And being a revolutionary organisation as they claim to be, does not give you the right to spread divisive and hatred comments about other people in this country. So, we definitely welcome this judgement,” says Aucamp.
The DA welcomes today’s Western Cape Equality Court finding Julius Malema guilty of hate speech, and we commend the Human Rights Commission for pursuing this matter.
The DA will be exploring further action to enforce serious consequences against Malema.
